My paintings are explorations take shape as I work. They develop in a process of noticing and reacting to my perceptions and to what appears on the canvas, a back and forth that hovers between figurative and abstract imagery.

My abstract landscapes are inspired by the beauty of nature, which is constantly unfolding. I like to draw and paint at local forests and beaches, and use these sketches as starting points for paintings that evoke the energy of being in nature, where inner and outer worlds meet.

I work in layers, adding and subtracting paint and collage elements until the piece comes together as an inter-connected whole.

My hope is to create an immersive experience that evokes the feeling of finding transcendence in nature—a sense of being part of the natural world. This is more important than ever today, as we search for new ways of coexisting and finding a way toward climate sustainability.
