My paintings are explorations that take shape as I work. They develop in a process of noticing and reacting to what appears on the canvas, in a back and forth that produces imagery that hovers between the figurative and abstraction.

Many of my works are abstract landscapes that are inspired by the beauty of nature, which is constantly unfolding. I like to draw and paint at local forests and beaches, and use these sketches as starting points for paintings that evoke the energy of being in nature, where inner and outer worlds meet.

As I work in layers over time, adding and subtracting paint and collage elements, the piece eventually comes together as an inter-connected whole.

My hope is to create an immersive experience that evokes the feeling of finding transcendence in nature—a sense of being part of the natural world. This is more important than ever today, as we search for new ways of coexisting with nature and finding our way toward climate sustainability.
